Shaikh AG. A trail of artificial vestibular stimulation: electricity, heat, and magnet. J Neurophysiol 108: 1–4, 2012. First published March 28, 2012; doi:10.1152/jn.01169.2011.—The interaction between the magnetic field of a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine and ion currents within the inner-ear endolymph results in a Lorentz force. This force produces a pressure that pushes on the cupula within the semicircular canals causing nystagmus and vertigo. Here I discuss several implications of this unique and noninvasive way to stimulate the vestibular system in experimental neurophysiology and clinical neurology.

متن کاملThe effective of Vestibular stimulation on Improve motor skills in children educable mental retardation with developmental coordination disorder
Background and Aim: Children need to have appropriate sensory stimulation, sensory stimulation improve motor skills and competence for the children to school. Such as of these stimulations is vestibular stimulation. Many of the educable mentally disability child are the poor motor coordination and balance that some of these children, who are known as developmental coordination disorder (DCD). T...
متن کاملDevelopmental expression of tyrosine kinase b in rat vestibular nuclear neurons responding to horizontal and vertical linear accelerations
Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is known to be crucial for the development of peripheral vestibular neurons. However, the maturation profile of the BDNF signal transducing receptor, tyrosine kinase B (TrkB) in functionally activated otolith-related vestibular nuclear neurons of postnatal rats remains unexplored. In the present study, conscious Sprague-Dawley rats (P4 to adult) were sub...
متن کاملVestibular Stimulation and Auditory Perception in Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Objectives: Rehabilitation strategies play a pivotal role in reliving the inappropriate behaviors and improving children's performance during school. Concentration and visual and auditory comprehension in children are crucial to effective learning and have drawn interest from researchers and clinicians. Vestibular function deficits usually cause high level of alertness and vigilance, and proble...
متن کاملDesign Optimization for Total Volume Reduction of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generators
Permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSGs) are novel generators which can be used in high-performance wind farms. High efficiency and flexibility in producing electricity from variable rotation make them good candidate for wind power applications. Furthermore, because these kinds of generators have no excitation winding, there is no copper loss on rotor; hence, they can operate at high pow...
